Larry Boggio

Getting to Know Your Pharmacist

Larry Boggio is the founder and co-owner of Boggio Family of Pharmacies. Larry grew up in Port Colborne, and worked as a stock boy at Matheson’s Pharmacy while attending high school at Lockview Park High School and then Port Colborne High School. After graduation, Larry left Port Colborne to attend the University of Toronto. Larry graduated and became a licensed pharmacist in 1981. After graduation, Larry returned to Port Colborne and began working for Bob Beckett at Beckett Pharmacy, on the corner of King and Clarence St.

In 1983, Larry was able to purchase Beckett Pharmacy renamed it Boggio Pharmacy. In 1985, Boggio Pharmacy was moved to a new location on King St. and then on Catharine St. in 1990. This flagship store served as the beginning of a long history of the Boggios serving the Niagara Region.

Larry has a 30+ history as a Pharmacist and business owner, having grown his business from one to four stores in four communities across Niagara – Fonthill, Niagara Falls, Ridgeway and Port Colborne. He now proudly employs over 100 individuals across these communities.

Larry has always enjoyed living and working in the Niagara Region and actively supports many charities, groups and activities in the Niagara Region. Larry is most actively involved with the United Way of South Niagara, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association and Port Cares. In May 2009, the newly renovated pharmacy reopened as Boggio & Edwards IDA Pharmacy.

Donnie has been actively involved with the Ontario Pharmacist Association for more than 10 years. Donnie was interim CEO, assuming this role after serving as OPA’s Chair of the Board from 2006 to 2007. Aaron Boggio

Aaron Boggio

Getting to know your Pharmacist

Aaron Boggio is a co-owner and operator at Boggio Family of Pharmacies. After growing up in Port Colborne and graduating from Lakeshore Catholic High School, Aaron attended the University of Guelph for a year, as a prerequisite, and then graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Toronto. After graduating, Aaron returned to Port Colborne and to his family’s pharmacies. With further accreditations in Immunization Certification, Methadone Maintenance Therapy Certification, CPR and First Aid, Aaron loves helping people.

Aaron feels that pharmacists are the most easily accessible and the ideal health care professional for helping individuals that can be treated on an outpatient basis. As a pharmacist, Aaron enjoys working with patients with diabetes because he can provide advice and coaching while watching their condition and quality of life improve as a result.

When asked why he chose to return to work in the Niagara Region, Aaron explained that he thinks he is serving the Niagara Region in the best way possible because its aging population requires the services that he can provide. Plus, Niagara also happens to be located between two lakes, has plenty of green space and the escarpment, which provides ample opportunities for his love for outdoor activities.

Ken Bradfield

Ken Bradfield

This is Ken Bradfield, one of Boggio Family of Pharmacies’ devoted pharmacists. Ken grew up and attended A.N. Myer Secondary School in Niagara Falls before leaving home to attend the University of Toronto to gain a Degree in Pharmacy. Since then Ken has also gained further accreditations, including Immunization Certification and Methadone Therapy Certification.

Ken always had the intention of returning home to the Niagara Region after finishing school to work as a small town pharmacist. After owning his own IDA pharmacy in Niagara Falls for a number of years, Ken sold the pharmacy and began working for Boggio Family of Pharmacies on a part time basis. Ken chose to work for Boggio Family of Pharmacies because he prefers to work for independent pharmacies in small towns, since it allows for better connections with patients and the community. Today, Ken still enjoys medicine and health care and feels honoured that his patients trust him with their healthcare.

When Ken isn’t at work helping his patients, he is enjoying time with his family, wildlife photography and baseball.

Shelby has since gained accreditations in Methadone Maintenance Treatment, PCCA Canada Primary Training, PCCA Canada Women’s Health, Diabetes Care Level 1, Smoking Cessation, Immunization and Injections, First Aid and CPR.

Shelby visited the Niagara region during her undergrad and she liked it so much, she and her husband decided to move here. Shelby enjoys working as a community pharmacist in an independent, family-owned pharmacy setting, so Boggio Family of Pharmacies was a natural fit for her. Working for a smaller company makes you truly feel like a part of the family, which Shelby appreciates. At Boggios, our pharmacists are encouraged to spend time with each patient, get to know them and their individual needs. This is something Shelby is truly passionate about – she especially enjoys meeting with patients to conduct medication reviews and help each patient learn about their medications, medical conditions, improve adherence and promote safe medication use.

When she isn’t in the pharmacy interacting with her patients, you can find Shelby with her husband and 3 daughters staying active outdoors. She also enjoys exercising, running and when she gets the chance – relaxing and reading a good book.

Our Story

When Larry Boggio graduated from the University of Toronto in 1981 with a degree in pharmacy he had a vision of bringing an exceptional level of pharmacy service to his small hometown of Port Colborne, Ontario. Larry imagined treating all of his customers like family, providing his caring advice and pharmacy services to local residents to keep them healthy and independent.

In 1983 Larry was able to bring his vision to reality with his purchase of Beckett’s Pharmacy from the late Bob Beckett. His vision quickly became a success in the small town of Port Colborne leading to multiple expansions of the pharmacy and improvements in services and products to meet the unique demands of the small community. Larry immediately made a point of paying it back to his small community with support for many local organizations, clubs and sports teams.

In 2008 in partnership with Donnie Edwards, Larry took his vision to the small town of Ridgeway, ON with the purchase of Ridgeway IDA pharmacy. His vision remained the same here as it was in Port Colborne. Treat all customers like family and support the community that supports you. These fundamentals were once again shown to be a success.

In 2010 and 2014 respectively, Larry’s sons Aaron and Kyle Boggio joined the family business both as practicing pharmacists. Working their way up in the business for many years through high school and University allowed Aaron and Kyle to learn and live their father’s vision from day one.

With a family of pharmacists at the helm the Boggio family decided it was time to bring their vision to more residents throughout Niagara. In 2010 Fonthill Pharmasave in Fonthill, ON was acquired followed closely by MacKinnon Guardian Drugs in Niagara Falls, ON in 2011. Throughout this rapid expansion Larry’s original vision remained the same and again was proven successful.

With four successful pharmacies and a growing number of customers an investment in advanced dispensing technology became necessary to continue providing the level of service our customers deserved and had come to expect. Dispensing technology gives our pharmacists more time to focus on the customer, providing the level of personalized service that Larry had originally conceived back in 1981 and that had made the Boggio Family of Pharmacies successful ever since.
